| Contents: | A country lad from the Transvaal, Andries Viviers, causes a stir in Stellenbosch when he is selected for the famous Matie Rugby Club first team soon after arriving in the university town. He upsets the status quo further in vying for the attention of the most beautiful girl on campus, the sweetheart of the rugby captain. Worse still, Andries’s father bested a local professor in seeking the hand of the young woman who was to become Andries’s mother. Just before the annual intervarsity between the Maties and the Ikeys, past and present catch up with Andries, who drops out. But he is cajoled back into student life by fellow students, teammates – and even the professor and the rugby captain.
