| Contents: | This medical tear-jerker is a saga of doctors in and out of love. Marius Hugo, a final-year medical student from Vrededorp, a poor residential area hugging the Johannesburg inner-city, becomes involved with Louise, a young doctor. But his life is made miserable by a relative and her vindictive boyfriend who claim that Louise helped them with an illegal abortion.
Marius is tremendously upset and when he later discovers that Louise has kept her former marriage a secret, he decides to break off the relationship. Louise gives up her job and heads for a country town where she starts her own practice. There she discovers that she’s pregnant. Despite small-town gossip, she decides to raise the baby herself. She also resists the amorous attention of the town’s Casanova and eventually returns to Johannesburg to tell the good doctor Marius Hugo about her love for him, and their baby.
