Coming from an establishment production house, Kavalier Films, the film’s examination of the era of drugs and parties and carefree relationships between young people, was shockingly candid. It’s the Sixties, and Johannesburg university students Tien Fouché and Nelia Bell are in love.
When they aren’t attending classes, they are having fun with their best friends, Nick and San. But their carefree days come to an end when San dies after taking an overdose. Shortly thereafter, Nick commits suicide. An outraged Tien feels that the liberal professor Ivan Ullmann is to blame for both deaths, as San was introduced to drugs at one of his parties.
